About crafts

I have always admired skilled craftsmen and women. An early childhood memory is when I could stand for hours looking at the glassblowers at the glasswork in Skansen (an open air museum in Stockholm) totally mesmerized by the exciting process of making glassware.

Crafts unite people over time and space. Tools and methods have sustained basically the same over hundreds and in some cases even thousands of years. Patterns used in fabrics, knitting, embroidery, decoration paintings etc. have elements that run over the centuries and can be found in all parts of the world. To practice crafts can give a feeling of connection and belonging to a huge community, that the basics are common all over the world now and many generations back in time. That is great I think!
